Hello

Hi. Hope you're well. Or if no one is reading, I guess there's no need for hello... But I'll continue, assuming at least one person has found this.

And what is this? It's a blog where I'm going to share my experiences about being a mum. My little girl is just over 10 months old, and is amazing. Most of the time. I didn't always feel that way (bonding was definitely a slow burn, not immediate). I've decided to write this blog mostly as a way to vent and moan, and also hopefully entertain with stories that show a side to motherhood (and family life) that I simply didn't expect.

I've toyed with the idea for a little while, so you may ask why now? It's simple really - it's been one of those weeks where I washed a disposable nappy, tried to put the saucepan away in the fridge (much to my husband's amusement) and left the iron on for a whole three DAYS. Yet that isn't that bad a week. I've done far worse. So I thought I'd share so someone could feel better about themselves in comparison!

In terms of my life right now, I'm on maternity leave (and have just applied to return to work part time, so everything is crossed that I get that approved) and my little girl is very much at the climbing on everything stage. Unfortunately for me, she's taken a particular liking to the coffee table and the lounge door (doesn't matter if it's open or closed, she'll still give it a go!). She's also eating everything in sight, mostly food but also toys, the sofa and occasionally fluff she's managed to find (possibly behind the radiator - another favourite item to cruise along).

My plans for this blog are to do a combination of things as they happen, as well as share some of the funnier (and simply awful) stories of our journey so far. In particular I want to share our struggle with her milk allergy, as I found that support hasn't been forthcoming and a lot of doctors were fairly dismissive of me as a first time mum (and if I hear someone say 'it's just colic' again I might just explode!). I've since been told that when my husband returned to work three short weeks after her birth, his colleagues were amazed he didn't fall asleep at his desk! To be fair at that point I think she slept less than six hours a day, mostly on someone, and spent the rest of the time screaming... I think that's pretty extreme, though at the time more than one person said another phrase I loathe - 'some babies cry more than others'. Yes, I'm sure they do, but screaming in pain for 18 hours a day is definitely not normal under any circumstances! More on that another day though.

So I think I'll conclude this first post there - hopefully it's given you a taste of things to come. I'm off to go check I've switched the iron off this time...
